God has used Financial Peace University in nothing short of a miraculous way in my life, and my wife’s life. When we started FPU in January of 2009, we were $78,000 in debt via credit cards, a student loan, and a new car. We believed we’d never get out from under that number.
In March of 2009, my wife told me that we should start a family, but with just $35,000 in credit card debt alone, there’s no way I could be a responsible husband and start a family with that kind of debt. Miraculously, in the final class of FPU in April of 2009, my wife felt the Lord leading her to tell me that we should wait one year before having children. God had told her what I was too cowardly to say, as I had told no one that I was thinking the exact same thing.
In March of 2010, now mostly free of our credit card debt, we started trying for a child. Six months later, we still had no results. What was God doing? Hadn’t he told us to wait a year? Why was He breaking my wife’s heart like this?
At a Grace Group one late September night in 2010, after we found out we weren’t pregnant again, we told our group what was going on, and specifically how they could pray for us. Sensing our pain, our group gathered around us and laid hands on us, praying for our situation. By our best guess, we were pregnant within the week.
How does this relate to FPU, you ask? Well, God’s timing is perfect, in all things.
He knew my heart. He knew my wife’s heart. He knew that my deepest desire regarding children was to bring a child into the world without any debt.
With God’s leading through FPU, this coming June 30th (or sometime around this!), we will welcome our first-born son into the world. Fifteen days before this, we’ll pay off the last of that $78,000, using what we learned in Financial Peace University. Except for our mortgage, WE’RE DEBT FREE!
